Mother's Day is a special day to celebrate and honour the incredible women who have shaped our lives. Because it’s Mother's Day, I had the pleasure of sitting down with my own mother, Ange, to ask her some questions that offer a glimpse into the life of a remarkable woman who has been a guiding force throughout my own life - and there’s no better way to appreciate our Mother’s roles than by hearing their stories.
Happy Mother’s Day to every kind of mother figure for everything they do.
What gets you up in the morning?
Coffee .. and my bladder
Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do
Firstly I’m a mum to 2 beautiful girls. Secondly I have a small business called Briarwood that makes women’s fashion clothing, handbags and small leather goods.
What inspired you to become a mother, and what has been the most rewarding part of being a mother?
I was always going to start a family, but when I saw how meaningful it was for my friends who were becoming parents, I wanted to experience that joy and fulfilment for myself. When my girls arrived my whole world changed… for starters my heart was now walking around outside my body. The rewards are simply being with these incredibly inspiring loving creatures. They fill my cup by just being them.
How do you celebrate Mother's Day, and what do you think is the most important thing for mothers to remember on this special day?
My ideal Mother's Day is one that involves both my children for as much of the day as they will give me. Breakfast out, coffees, walks, just being with them is enough. And of course I visit my own beautiful mum on this day and remember how much she did for me as I grew up.
What advice would you give to new mothers who are trying to juggle motherhood with other aspects of their lives?
The advice I would give other mothers is please enjoy every moment as they go so fast and each and every one of them is precious. And don't sweat the small stuff, it's soo not worth it!
Who inspired you growing up and who is your inspiration today?
My own mum inspired me. She was soo beautiful, hard working, and the ultimate juggler of her 4 busy daughters. But the thing I love the most was that all my friends loved her, and looked up to her and sought advice from her. That made me so proud. Because she was my mum.
What are some of your favourite memories of spending time with your children?
Favourite memories with my girls was always the slow/down time. Watching moves, snuggling up with popcorn. Just being together. Mummas are simple creatures ... If my girls are happy , I'm happy
